About Us

MN Steel Hockey was founded because players deserved better development program rather than touranment teams.

We saw too many hockey programs where families were investing significant time and money, but the training, instruction, and overall development weren't meeting the standard young athletes deserved. Players were playing plenty of games, but they weren't always receiving the quality coaching, purposeful training, and individual attention needed to truly develop.

Too often, practices consisted of coaches demonstrating a drill and then simply watching players run through it. There wasn't enough teaching, correction, feedback, or attention to the details that actually help players improve.

We study and research to design a better training model. We designed the MN Steel PDP (Performance & Development Program).

What started with just two teams has grown into a program serving hundreds of athletes across multiple age levels and locations. As MN Steel has grown, our purpose hasn't changed.

We aren't interested in simply putting teams on the ice. We want to develop hockey players and help them reach higher levels.

Development with purpose

Every part of the MN Steel program is designed with development in mind.

Our athletes receive training focused on skating, stickhandling, shooting and scoring, passing, positional development, hockey IQ, decision-making, and competitive game situations. We supplement our coaching staff with specialized instructors throughout the season to expose players to additional expertise and different teaching methods.

We believe practices should have a purpose. Coaches should teach not simply run drills. Players should understand the details behind what they're being asked to do. And development should be something we can see and evaluate over time.

Our Standard

Development isn't only about becoming a better skater, shooter, or hockey player.

We expect MN Steel athletes to be Team-first, competitive, coachable, accountable, and committed. We want players who embrace challenges, respond to adversity, support their teammates, and understand that improvement has to be earned.

We expect the same commitment from our coaches and organization. We will continue evaluating what we do, investing in our development program, and looking for ways to provide our athletes with a better experience.

We didn't create MN Steel to follow what everyone else was doing.

We created it because programs didn't meet our standards.
